Shiatsu Shoulder Massage at a Day Spa

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage technique. Literally translated as finger pressure, shiatsu practitioners use fingers to manipulate pressure points on the body. Shiatsu is related to reflexology  and Chinese meridian medicine, but it also recognizes the simple benefit of muscle massage. Shiatsu is very good at loosening up tightened or knotted muscles. Some practitioners claim that it also loosens up the body’s “chi”, or internal energy system.

The massage works b the masseuse applying pressure with their fingers or palms to muscle pressure points. The practicioner may rub the area or maintian constant pressure for around eight seconds. The pressure point may hurt a bit, but after release it should feel relieved and relaxed. Denver massage therapy practitioners love this technique because it is easy to learn and result in significant muscle relief. Most people refer to this as good pain. Of course you can request more or less pressure as needed. The amount of pressure that is comfortable to each person varies. I have had people that laugh and tell me to stop tickling at max pressure, and others where anything beyond a touch is painful.

Sometimes the practitioner may also use rhythmic pressure, but the key defining aspect of shiatsu is that the pressure is localized to one muscle or pressure point at once. The masseuse works over each problem muscle, one at a time. I tell my masseuses and hair stylists at the Denver hair salon to use their fingers instead of palms to get this localized massage technique. It may take a while to get the fingers strong enough to do this well, but once the stylist are experts, all the customers scream in pleasure.

The shiatsu treatment should last about an hour. You will not need to disrobe and generally all treatments are done with the fingers. I know one Denver day spa where they include advanced shiatsu treatments like stretching and twisting the back. Many shiatsu masseuses are very good at these techniques but this is not where the heart of the discipline lies. Of course there is nothing wrong with integrating techniques to make someone more healthy and feel better, because this is what massage really is. Denver masseuses are encouraged to keep their minds open. You may find an exciting new massage technique anywhere.

Like acupressure or reflexology, the shiatsu masseuse may try to look for other problems by exploring the muscle knots and sore spots along your meridians. The initial session may consist of the masseuse going over the body looking for sore spots, then later working on those spots to make them relaxed and refreshed. The treatment should consist of good pain but no discomfort. Discomfort makes the muscles tighten back up and defeats the purpose of the visit.

Denver Massage

Massage Therapy

Day spas are finding that patients love massages and are demanding more types of exotic massages. Most spas already do massage, but there are many techniques that can be incorporated or added to your spa treatment repertoire. People going to a Denver day spa expect at least a few of these treatments to choose from.

Swedish massage is one popular style that is especially good for increasing circulation. The technique uses broad strokes across the muscle and circulatory system to encourage blood flow. Oil is used to protect the skin from some of the more advanced friction techniques.
Deep tissue massage is more of a therapy, often targeting a specific issue. The masseuse will work a joint or muscle group. They may need to work to get at muscles and connective tissues buried beneath other body tissues. Masseuses at a Denver massage spa try and work up to higher pressures to keep the muscle from tightening up.
Foot or reflexology massage is based on Chinese ideas of meridians and organs being connected to those meridians. The idea is that each point on the foot corresponds with an organ or ailment. If that area is sore it might indicate a problem in a corresponding organ, and problems in the body can be helped with pressure at these nerve endings. Whether you believe in that or not the therapy can be beneficial to the feet and relax the whole body. We walk on our feet all day, so it is nice to give them a rest. After soaking the feet, the massage therapist at the Denver spa will apply firm pressure with the fingers or knuckles to the pressure points on the feet. Painful spots will be worked to relieve the area. You have probably seen the Chinese slippers full of little pokers that massage the feet all day.
Thai massage is similar to assisted yoga. The therapist helps you stretch and loosen your body by using their own. The typical Thai massage setup involves the patient in pajamas on a mat. The practitioner leans and rolls their arm rhythmically all over the body. A full massage lasts over an hour and should include the manipulation and cracking of every joint, and the stretching of every muscle. Some practitioners walk on backs. These types of massage are a tourist attraction all over Asia, but they are very popular because of their thoroughness. After the massage your whole body should feel renewed.

The Perfect Manicure

Salon Manicure

Manicures are delectible treatments for the hands and fingernails. Over the years, manicures have stayed popular because not only do they make your hands look beautiful, manicures are relaxing and invigorating. Sometimes home manicures will only work on the nails, although a proper manicure refreshes the whole hand.

The standard Denver beauty salon service should shape and file the nails. The nail technician will then consult with you and apply the kind of polish you want. Many do creative designs. It is amazing what artwork will fit into a single fingernail, but there are some real artists in a Denver spa. The salon manicure and spa manicure may be slightly different.

Spa manicures usually include more treatments for the skin and may include a massage. The French manicure is identical except for the style in which nail polish is applied. The hands are soaked in a softening liquid. This makes hands supple and smooth. The final step often ends with a massage and lotion application to maintain the beautiful hand’s new look.

A well performed manicure has a myriad of benefits. Denver salon artists recommend regular treatments to prevent hangnail formation. Each treatment will strengthen the nail. Over time your nails should be very strong. Strong nails do not suffer from cracks, tearing or broken tips. The massage opens up your blood circulation in the hands. This is especially good for typists or people who use their hands all day. Manicures can help reduce the signs of ageing in the hands. The skin on the hand is thin and flexible, so it is often the first place winkles form.
The hair salon’s tools for a manicure include a bowl of warm water for bathing and cleaning the fingers, and standard nail clippers. For those wanting to do a manicure at home, you may not have some of the other supplies, like a cuticle knife/clippers. The cuticle is that raised area of dead skin at the base of your fingernail a cuticle pusher can be used to scrape it off. First time manicure goes may be worried about this process, but most people say it leaves the fingers feeling light and refreshed. Most people do have a file or emery board at home.
After that, to do a home manicure, all you need is a buffer, and all the creams, polishes, removers, and oils you can stand. Use a base coat polish to lay a foundation for the nail polish. This should also smooth out any ridges in your nails. You can then apply a sealant over the polish to make your colors last longer. You need remover and sanitizing wipes for the pre and post nail cleanup.
Step by step, the perfect manicure begins with removal of old polish, and then shaping the nails to the style you desire. Then soak the hands and remove the cuticles. Apply the polish, using a base and sealant. The final step is a relaxing massage.

Wedding Makeup and Salon Tips

denver makeupBridal party makeup should be planned after everything else. If you really want to look your best, then your makeup should be coordinated with your dress, the flowers, lighting and other design aspects of the wedding chapel. Think about what you are wearing and the styling choices from a photography standpoint as well. Some colors just don’t show up well together on film. If you are dead set on a particular scheme, try using accents like scarves or jewelry to accessorize.

To really get it down, before the wedding, take pictures in the venue with the colors that will be there. Dark colors show up well if paired with say a white flower basket. To keep your skin radiant, don’t punish it in the week of the wedding. Denver hair salons may advise spray tanning instead of sun tanning. Check the coat beforehand to see how it looks. Sun damages skin after extended exposure. Try to stay with a regimen you trust instead of experimenting with new cosmetics. You do not want to realize that you are allergic to x cosmetic at the last minute. Powerful scrubs and exfoliating treatments should also be avoided.
To eliminate chapped lips, start applying Vaseline a month before the wedding. Sugar and water are also very good at moisturizing skin and lips. You do not need any expensive cosmetics, but check  Denver hair salons to see if they have any recommendations for your skin. Always pencil line your lips to help keep the lipstick from bleeding. Heat, kissing family, toasts and other unknown bridal happenings have a tendency to smear lipstick. You can use a light lip color with a clear gloss to bring an illusion of large full lips. Dark colors tend to minimize lips.
For those who wear eye wear, remember that lenses change the size of your eyes. Near sighted glasses make your eyes smaller while far sighted ones are like magnifying glasses. Do your eye makeup with the stylist at a Denver hair salon so they can help you balance out the effect of glasses. Remember that even if your eyes look a little dramatic in person, they will probably show up well in photographs. This is the reason for stage makeup. The only thing you should avoid is sparkly makeup because it can reflect too much light from camera flashes. If your Denver salon stylist is not available the day of the wedding, you will need to have a wedding day makeup kit. Some staples are tissues and cotton balls, concealer, eye shadow, pencil and clear lip gloss. You can also bring a bridal party wedding emergency kit with everything you could possibly need in an emergency.

Picking a Denver Hair Salon

Denver Hair Salon

If you want cutting edge designer hair, it may be hard to find the right salon. Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for when it comes to hair cuts too. Now I am not suggesting that you need to spend $500 at a celebrity hair stylist. What you do need is to do some research on hair salons. Think about what specifically you want in a stylist and then ask around, starting with friends, family and people who’s style you respect. There are plenty of choices out there when it comes to picking a Denver hair salon, so you do not have to settle on a favorite immediately. You can always go once and try it out; that is the next step.
Salon chains are one place to start. They are usually affordable and strive to keep the same level of service across stores. The fact is that these stylists often do not have much experience, and it really is impossible to keep quality the same between locations. You could get lucky though, because young stylists are often ambitious and full of energy. If you find the next great Denver hair stylist who is willing to do anything to make a name for themselves then you have stumbled upon something good. On the other hand, chain stylists often get paid poor commissions and most are not exceptionally skilled at cutting edge designs.
If you do want that cutting edge, latest hair style, then a boutique salon is the way to go. These upscale Denver hair salons are experts in creative styles. They probably have more equipment, although they try to hide it in the decor. The creative hair salons like to look unique with interesting furniture and interior design. They try to provide an extravagant service with all kinds of specialty pedicures, European treatments, cocktails and even food. Some really popular ones may be too crowded to really provide personal service. If you feel like you are getting lost in the bustle and it is not relaxing, then you may have the wrong location.

Another choice is the local-owned salon. They are often simple mom-and-pop establishments. As the owners work there and care about buisness, you may receive more attention. The styles at these local hair dressers may not be the most modern, but they will still try to help you, and you should expect good work from them.

Salon Services at Home

Denver SalonDay spas are wonderful worlds where the pampering never ends right? What could be a better place on earth? Well, some upscale early adopters have been bringing the spa home with day spa services to order at home. Some companies are delivering beauty products at home so their customers can relax in more comfortable environs. Personally, I think there is little more comfortable in the world than a Denver day spa, but I can see the appeal of the concept.
Home salon services brings up many new issues. How does the service work? Why haven’t I heard of it before, and is it hard for them to bring their equipment to you? Who can I trust to let into my home? Well it depends on the company really. One of the main advantages home salon services have over say a  Denver day spa, is the reduced time it takes to get the services. In big cities, it can take over an hour just to get to your favorite stylist. These smart folks are making the salon artists do the traveling. This certainly results in a price premium, but when it comes to regular clients of day spas, this money is not really an issue. Having day spa treatments done at home also eliminates the wait. Your stylist is only there to work for you.
Home treatment schedules are also much more flexible than at a Denver day spa. Once scheduled, the appointment is for you only so any changes or extensions can be worked out one on one. Getting away from the bustle of the day spa can also help some treatments like nails or facials. When the salon artist does not have to worry about the next customer coming in, they can really let you have time for nails to dry and facials to set in. It can be really special to have your own home turned into a retreat.
The best part about beauty services at home is that you can turn it into a party. Invite some friends over to get massages together over drinks. This way you can receive your pampering treatments with your friends. These services are also great for weddings and the like where all the brides maids can get treatments together the day of the wedding, and everyone will be relaxed. Do not worry if you do not have a massage bed or whatever, because the salon artist brings all the equipment themselves and can set it up anywhere.

Tips for your first Brazilian Wax

What to expect from a Brazilian Wax

The Brazilian bikini wax trend is here to stay after being introduced to the US just over 20 years ago. The real difference between a Brazilian wax and other waxing is its thoroughness. Brazilian waxes pull out the hair in the whole area in front – back and middle. Of course you can ask to keep a tuft of hair in the front most people refer to as a landing strip. The Brazilian wax is famous because of its perceived exoticness and because of the complete hair removal. The first time you go to a Denver salon to get a wax it is a good idea to know what all will take place.

A waxing will take place in a private room and should not take more than 30 minutes. You will be asked to take off your clothes and lay on a table covered with clean paper. The waxer will then come in to perform the procedure. Wax is so good at removing hair because it will remove anything sticking out more than a quarter inch. The waxer may even need to trim you down a bit. Any shorter and you may have to delay your trip because the wax will not have enough surface area to pull out the hair.

Do not worry too much about the hot wax. Your skin will be coated in talcum powder to keep the wax from sticking to the skin. You only want to pull out hair, not the skin! Thinking about the pain will only make it first. In fact, the professional waxers should work quickly because this minimizes pain.

The actual procedure at most Denver salons is to use hot wax spread on your hair with a wood waxing stick. The waxer then firmly presses a length of cloth over the strip, creating a home made piece of tape. The painful part comes once the wax has cooled. To make the waxing last as long as possible, you need to pull the hair root out. The waxer pulls off the strip against the grain of hair to make sure the root comes too.

The pain involved is exaggerated, according to a waxer at a Denver salon I frequent. If it is too much, you can try to use harder wax that is peeled off, or do smaller strips at a time. Each one will hurt less, but the process will take more time.

Some people also call it a Hollywood wax when the hair is removed around the buttocks. You may be asked to help hold your skin while the strip is pulled. The final stage is a touch-up where extra hairs are tweezed. They will then cover you in a cooling lotion. A good wax will last 2 weeks to a month. You may develop red bumps as ingrown hairs come in. Try aloe and an exfoliating treatment to prevent this.

Is Brazilian Waxing for You?

Posted by admin on March 5, 2010 under brazilian waxing, denver waxing, denver waxing salon | Be the First to Comment

The terms ‘Brazilian Waxing’ and ‘Hollywood Waxing’ are often used interchangeably to refer to hair removal in the genital area.

Specifically the term ‘Brazilian Waxing’ refers to partial genital hair removal, often leaving a strip of hair, whereas ‘Hollywood Waxing’ refers to total genital hair removal.

The term ‘Brazilian Waxing’ as used in this article refers to either total or partial genital hair removal.

Genital hair removal includes hair removal around the anus, perineum and vagina. Prices at beauty salons may range anywhere from $25 to $100 or more.

Many have all the hair removed. Some prefer to leave a tiny strip of closely-shorn hair in the front. It is now common for men as well as women to ask for Denver Brazilian Waxing.

Tips When Visiting A Salon For Brazilian Waxing

* After underwear is removed a beautician asks the client to lie down and raise the legs. Talc may be sprinkled all over the bottom, anus and vagina areas. Hot wax is then spread over all these areas and then ripped off with cotton strips.
* A good way of finding a professional in Brazilian waxing is to ask through friends or at your local beauty parlor. It is better not to just take ‘pot luck’ by checking out the yellow pages.
* Aestheticians who do Brazilian waxing see every part of you and many feel much less embarrassed with a professional.
* Professionals will minimize the number of repeat applications over the same spot. Those not so skilled will go over and over the same area thus prolonging the pain or discomfort.
* An experienced aesthetician will pull off the wax in a clean, fast movement. A less experienced one may hesitate causing more pain.
* As the client is asked to spread their legs in various embarrassing positions, acting in a matter of fact way, treating it as normal, will help a person feel a little less self-conscious. Remember, that’s how the aesthetician views it.
* Check out the salon that does Brazilian waxing beforehand to make sure it is hygienic and that the aesthetician is licensed. The license is normally displayed.
* Check that fresh bed covering is used for each client and that the waxing supplies are sanitized and disposed of in a hygienic way after use.
* Make sure your appointment is at least one week after a period so the skin is not so sensitive.
* Make sure the hair is trimmed to about 1/8th of an inch. It should be free from oils and lotion to make hair removal easier.
* Don’t rush the appointment. Allow plenty of time, at least one hour.
* The pain can be reduced by using an antiseptic preparation in advance. Also, following up with a soothing lotion containing Aloe Vera or Calamine Lotion can reduce the itching and discomfort.

Why Is Brazilian Waxing So Popular? Many just enjoy the clean feeling that comes with being hairless. Some who did it just to wear a bikini now keep it up because “it just feels great”!
